Offer a foster or adoption

Adopting or fostering is a responsibility that we want to be synonymous with fulfillment for everyone involved. Thus, Les Pattounes Heureuses have chosen to practice and promote positive education to provide every adopted individual with a serene and peaceful life. Positive education relies on reinforcing desired behaviors through rewards and encouragement, rather than punishment. This respectful and compassionate approach allows individuals to develop their self-confidence and trust in their environment, thus promoting a harmonious coexistence with their human family. We believe that every sentient being deserves to be respected, gently guided when necessary, but also given as much freedom of choice as possible.

In order to adopt or foster an individual with us, we will ask you to read a few articles about positive education if you are not already familiar with it. This will help you determine whether this approach is suitable for you, allowing us to move forward together if it is. It will also be easier for us to assist you if we have an overview of your knowledge through our form: rest assured, anyone, even a novice but willing and kind person, can become a foster or adoptive family with Les Pattounes Heureuses. As long as you have the desire to do well and your environment permits it, we will support you to the best of our ability.

The differences between fostering and adopting

Although there are many similarities, fostering and adopting are not quite the same.

A foster situation can sometimes lead to an adoption, as it allows for temporary living with an individual before deciding to keep them permanently. However, fostering is not merely a trial period; its duration is rarely predictable, and the care provided should be similar to that expected during an adoption to ensure everyone is comfortable.

Fostering is a commitment for an indefinite duration but is typically shorter than a lifetime. If you have a few weeks, months, or years available but aren’t ready to adopt, you can save many individuals through fostering. You can also make this choice if you have the time to adopt; indeed, adoptive families are essential, but foster families are equally important for rescuing all the individuals in need.

When you adopt an individual who is already in a foster home, we know them well enough to ensure a high chance of a successful adoption. When you foster an individual that we need to care for, you must understand that we may know a little less about them, but your help is crucial for their rescue.

When you adopt, the costs, particularly veterinary fees, are your responsibility (although assistance is available in case of difficulties). In contrast, when you foster, these costs are covered by the association.
